the believers
In this series of documentary photographs, I am presenting intimate close-up portraits of people who I have come into contact with in my daily life. The images are straightforward, minimal and unadorned. By eliminating any traces of a location, I attempt to illustrate any tension between the artist and the subject which one doesn't naturally experience when shooting other types of formal or casual portraits. In these types of pictures the viewer can only conjecture what is actually going on with the subject at the moment the image is captured; is the subject happy or sad, scared or embarrassed, fearful or angry, or maybe just indifferent? The possibilities are endless and multiple spectators may have different takes on the same image.
